As an agent for change Life Cycle promotes a healthy and social lifestyle. This urban bicycle station provides commuters with secure bike storage, showers, locker oohs, a bike wash/repair area, a retail bike shop, a bike share program and a public cafe.
The relationship between bike and rider is continually questioned and reinforced as the center is occupied. The bike storage volume acts as a quantity gauge. One by one bike tires peak out of the facade as riders lock their bikes into vertical slots. The bike is at once: a beautiful object, a facade animator, a shared vehicle, and a reclaimed building material.
The ground level is highly porous allowing free pedestrian movement across the site. Opening to the south the building program surrounds an open central gathering space. The secure and private programs are raised above he public realm. For more information about the Rotch Traveling Scholarship follow this link .
